Christmas on Exmoor

Celebrate the run up to Christmas and get the most out of the festive season with a break on Exmoor, with one of these local events!

Exmoor at Christmas time is a magical place. But what festive activities are there to enjoy while you’re here? There are so many to choose from. Close to home, we are lucky to have two fantastic evenings locally, with the focus firmly on Christmas and the independent businesses that our twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth are home to.

First up, there is late night shopping in Lynton on the 7th of December…

Lynton Late Night Christmas Shopping

This well loved and supported event sees local shops and cafe’s open into the evening, usually with some fantastic offers to help you get your Christmas shopping sorted. As you can see, there is lots to see and do as well as visit the local shops; there will be Christmas carols, dancers, buskers, and even Father Christmas himself will be here to see the most well behaved girls and boys.

Then, down in lovely Lynmouth, we have Light Up Lynmouth on the 14th of December…

This all day and into the evening event will showcase the plethora of fantastic local stores in Lynmouth, all independent and unique. Grab a beautiful scented candle from XOX Candles who are located right in the entrance of The Bath Hotel. Next, wander up the pedestrianised shopping street and get some homemade fudge, or have a look in Mor Gifts and Interiors for some gorgeous homeware and gift ideas. Round it all off with a mulled cider or wine in The Ancient Mariner, our bar and restaurant!

Slightly further afield, at Alrington Court and National Trust Carriage Museum, there is a whole host of Christmas activities, from markets to workshops. Have a look at their National Trust page HERE for a full list of exciting plans that there are in place!

On the same weekend as Late Night Shopping in Lynton, you can also pop over to stunning Dunster, a short drive away from Lynton and Lynmouth. This beautiful historic village, with it’s imposing National Trust castle, holds an annual ‘Dunster By Candlelight‘ event. This is a truly worthwhile event to try and catch, as the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants of this unique village are festooned with candles and Christmas lights. There are street performances, a candlelight procession and lots more to see and do. Have a look at their website on the link above for more information about what’s going on.

If that’s not enough, there is a local Christmas shop near us at Caffyns Farm, plenty of local bar and restaurants with mulled cider and wine, and fantastic Christmas food. Why not time your visit to Lynton and Lynmouth with one of these great events, and kick off the festive season in style!
