2020 so far...and what's next!

When we wrote our last blog, and mentioned '...we wonder what 2020 will hold for The Bath Hotel'...this wasn't quite what we had in mind!


We closed the hotel, bar and restaurant in line with the government requirements back in March, and overnight, our villages fell silent. To occupy ourselves, we voluntarily ran a 'Fresh Box' scheme to support our local, rural community and suppliers, cleaned the hotel from top to bottom, refurbished some more rooms, and waited for you all to come back!


For many, on either a personal or professional level (or both), 2020 has been a difficult year. Our rural village has been busy since lock-down was eased, providing much needed support to all of the independent businesses that have been able to re-open, and their hardworking staff. We have been fortunate enough to have had a very (very!) busy season since re-opening, and thankfully this support is looking to continue into a rather busy October as well. Thank you so much if you have supported our businesses, by staying with us, eating or drinking with us at The Ancient Mariner, liking something we've posted on Facebook or telling a friend about us.

So what's next? We, like all other hoteliers, are following the guidelines and rules to the letter, and due to the nature of the virus and the way in which is is developing, we don't know exactly what's going to happen next.


With that in mind, we're offering a very flexible cancellation policy, if you are thinking about coming to stay in October/November/December. Our standard cancellation policy still applies (a full refund if your reservation is cancelled up to 48 hours before you are due to arrive, with the exception of Christmas and New Years Eve reservations). After that 48 hour window, if there is a Covid-19 related reason for the cancellation, you are entitled to a full refund or a voucher for the full value of your deposit for a repeat visit, valid for up to two years. Please note, that we may require proof that the cancellation is for genuine Covid-19 reasons (e.g. a postcode to prove that you are in a lock-down area, or a copy of a request to self isolate).

We hope that our flexible cancellation policy provides any potential guests with the reassurance to book a little staycation on beautiful Exmoor. Over the rest of October, we will be posting blogs, links and updating our 'Things To Do' page on our website, to showcase all of the wonderful local areas, attractions and amenities that will be available over the coming months.


Lynmouth on Exmoor is the perfect base for a walking break - assuming you've got the right clothes! We know we can't guarantee the weather, but we can guarantee a wild and romantically remote break on Exmoor, away from the crowds (we can even recommend routes to suit - though do bear in mind that a walking break on Exmoor does assume a certain level of fitness...it can be VERY hilly!).
